A POPULAR sandwich shop in York city centre has "temporarily" closed its doors.

The York Roast Co’s Low Petergate branch will be shut "for a few weeks", according to a post by the company on social media on Monday, September 7.

The post said the closure is to allow "work on something exciting behind the scenes".

Window posters have been installed at the shop with QR codes for customers.

The Facebook post from the company said: "It's official - our transformation begins.

"But York Roast Co. isn't slowing down.

"Join us at 4 Stonegate, York while we prepare what's next."

The York Roast Co is a family-run business founded in Yorkshire probably best known for its signature YorkyPud Wrap, although the menu also offers sandwiches and sides.

The wrap combines roast meats, vegetables and stuffing inside a giant Yorkshire pudding.

The company also has a store in Chester.
