Older people are securing vital financial support thanks to targeted advocacy services helping them navigate complex benefits systems.
A recent client survey by Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY) revealed that just 14 recorded awards led to an annualised first-year value of £101,172.
The figure does not reflect the charity's full financial impact, as it only covers recorded claims and excludes wider advocacy outcomes such as improved confidence, independence, and reduced anxiety.
With the cost-of-living crisis ever present, claims for Blue Badges, Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit, PIP and housing benefits continue to rise, highlighting the growing number of people seeking support to access the financial help and services they are entitled to.
Wayne Dawson, charity director at OCAY, said: "People come to us facing a wide range of challenges, from navigating the cost of living and accessing essential support to dealing with isolation, loneliness, and reduced mobility.
"For many, getting the right advocacy can feel like another barrier in itself.
"OCAY is proud to provide accessible, practical support that helps people understand their options, access the help they are entitled to, and have their voices heard."
