A dazzling parade of illuminated motorbikes is set to light up the North Yorkshire coast next week.

Scarborough’s South Bay will host the return of the Goldwing Light Parade on Saturday, September 12, an annual highlight that draws crowds of up to 12,000 people and raises funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Cllr Simon Myers, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for arts and culture, said: "Events such as this play an important role in attracting visitors to our coast and boosting the local economy.

"The combination of the illuminated motorcycles and entertainment creates a spectacle that helps showcase Scarborough as a vibrant destination and raises vital funds for the air ambulance’s work.

"We look forward to welcoming visitors from across the region and beyond."

The bikes will be on display at Scarborough Pier from 12pm to 4pm, giving visitors a chance to see them up close before the evening procession.

The parade will begin at 8pm, following a route via Spa Bridge, Foreshore Road, and Marine Drive to Peasholm Gap before returning to the pier.

Organiser Danielle Scott said: "This year marks my fourth year organising the parade, and I'm incredibly excited for what promises to be another fantastic event.

"Preparations are coming together really well for what will be a spectacular display of lights along Scarborough's beautiful seafront.

"Visitors can expect bikes decorated with lights galore, music, and even the occasional fancy dress costume, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere for all ages."

To ensure public safety, road closures and traffic restrictions will be in effect.

Foreshore Road, Sandside, and Eastborough (from Globe Street to the seafront) will be closed from 7.30pm to 10pm.

Marine Drive and Royal Albert Drive will have rolling closures from 7.30pm until around 8.45pm.

Due to safety concerns and recent wildfire risks nationally, the traditional fireworks display will not take place this year.
