Search the Public Notice PortalA MAJOR step forward in the creation of a brand new city quarter for York is set to be taken, the developer behind the project has said.
A spokesperson for York Central Ltd said approval of plans for their regeneration scheme would pave the way for the building of something the whole city could be proud of.
They added they were pleased that City of York Council planning officers had recommended approving their plans for more than 1,000 homes, a hotel, offices and other parts of the scheme.
It comes as the plans, which form part of the regeneration of one of the UK’s largest brownfield sites, are set to go before councillors Thursday, September 10.

Thursday’s planning committee hearing will see councillors decide whether to move ahead with York Central by deciding on the application which is the final part of its first phase.
Earlier parts included infrastructure for the site and a six-storey Government Hub office building set to be completed by 2028.
The latest application features a 213-bed three or four star hotel, a new entrance at the western end of York Station and seven-storey Innovation Hub office block.
They would all face onto a new public space dubbed Coal Drops Square and the area would also feature shops and leisure spaces on the ground floor of the buildings.
A total of 1,014 homes would be built across three plots, along with a convenience store.

A new park is also planned.
York Central Ltd’s spokesperson said Thursday’s hearing followed 18 months of them working with the council, local communities and other stakeholders on the plans.
The spokesperson said: “We are pleased that planning officers have recommended approval of this important planning application which will deliver the first phase of a brand-new city quarter for York;, one the whole city can be proud of.
“York Central has been many years in the making.
“If approved, the plans will enable us to deliver a major part of the York Central vision, including much-needed new homes, commercial space that will support thousands of jobs, as well as extensive parkland and public realm for everyone to enjoy.
“We now look forward to the application being considered by Planning Committee and to taking the next step towards delivering one of the most significant regeneration projects in York’s history.”
It comes as part of the wider York Central regeneration project which was first granted outline approval in 2019.
The £2 billion scheme, led by developers McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate, covers 45 hectares and would see at least 2,500 homes built.
Network Rail and Homes England are also working on the project.
It would grow the city’s economy by a fifth, adding around £1.1 billion, and create around 6,500 jobs.
The expansion of the National Railway Museum with a new Central Hall is also part of the project.
