A POPULAR holiday park in North Yorkshire could reduce the number of static caravans at its site in order to remain “attractive to tourists”.

Primrose Valley Holiday Park in Filey wants permission to reduce the number of static caravan bases at its site as part of a plan to “meet the needs and expectations of guests”.

The holiday park is located within the open countryside on the east coast and is one of several parks operated nationally by Bourne Leisure.

The proposal to change previously approved plans would allow the holiday park to install larger caravans instead, said Haven Leisure, the applicant.

In 2023, the park was given the green light for the development of 36 hardstanding bases for the siting of static caravans.

Under new plans, this would be reduced to 21 caravans and would see the number of car parking spots increased to two per caravan, while six central pitches would be replaced with a landscaping feature.

The size of the proposed caravans would be increased from 12ft by 36ft to a larger 20ft x 40ft.

According to a design statement: “To ensure that the holiday park continues to meet the needs and expectations of guests and remain an attractive option for tourists visiting Scarborough, the applicant is seeking to make amendments to the approved plans.”

“Since the application was approved, further consideration has been given to the type of caravan to be accommodated.”

The Highway Authority has said that as the proposals “do not alter access arrangements to the site from the public highway and are unlikely to generate any increase in trips, there are no highway concerns with the proposal and we have no objections to the application”.

The local planning authority has not set a date for deciding on the plans, which are currently open to representations from members of the public.
