Word 'welcome' absent from Sam Smith's pubs - says our letter writer
Further to Brian Ledger’s letter about Humphrey Smith.
I recall visiting the Buckles Inn a number of years ago, and remember that I observed four notices pinned to the front door entrance.
These all stated what you were not allowed to do inside the pub; however, the word welcome was conspicuously absent!

Too many roadside distractions
READING about the £2,000 fine on the Yorkshire holiday park for putting up illegal roadside advertising, a justifiable fine in my opinion, there are far too many distractions at the side of the roads.
But my bone of contention regarding roadside signs is for the people who advertise events, carboot sales, birthdays etc but never or rarely remove them afterwards – littering the road signage until final they disintegrate.
A type of wilful littering, I don't object to the signage as such but if you put it up, you make sure to take it down.
