Lidl has been named the best UK supermarket bakery by a YouTuber after he carried out a blind taste test.

The content creator called Ksans picked items from Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, and Sainsbury’s to see if he could tell the difference between the five bakeries.

The YouTuber decided to rank four items from each supermarket bakery, including bread, a savoury item, a sweet item, and a mystery item.

Ksans was immediately impressed by Lidl and stated: “It smells like a bakery. It looks like a bakery.”

Why was Lidl’s bakery named the best?

Ksans ranked each item out of 10, starting with the crusty rolls, which he gave Lidl a score of six and a half because it was “too soft”.

He rated Morrisons at just a five and a half, with Waitrose coming out on top of the first round with a score of eight because it had a “nice level of crunch on the outside”.

The second round involved savoury items such as pizzas and sausage rolls, with Lidl scoring a seven and a half for its “fresh” taste.

He was not impressed by the Sainsbury’s pizza and said it was “disappointing” but enjoyed the Waitrose option, which he scored a seven and a half.

Tesco came out on top with its sausage roll, as its pastry “dissolved” in Ksans mouth while still being “crunchy”.

Sainsbury’s topped the third round thanks to its “nice amount of jam” and for being “soft on the inside”.

In the mystery round, Ksans tested a cherry and almond bakewell from Waitrose, a cinnamon twist from Tesco, a sprinkle iced finger bun from Morrisons’, and an apple and cinnamon baton from Sainsbury’s.

But Lidl’s Dubai chocolate muffin was the item that impressed the YouTuber the most and scored eight points.

On the muffin, he said: “It’s super super soft. When you bite into it, it almost melts into your mouth.”

Ksans named Lidl the best UK supermarket after it scored 27 and a half points, thanks to its range of products available and overall quality.
