AN endurance athlete is coming to York as part of her national campaign to get one million people moving.
Esmée Gummer, who was paralysed at 18 following complications from a routine medical procedure, launched The Nation’s 5K to encourage people across the UK and Ireland to complete a five-kilometre journey - by running, walking, jogging or wheeling.
The York event takes place at York Racecourse on Monday, August 3 at 7pm, in between runs in Ripon and Leeds.

She said: "This challenge is about getting people moving together.
"Running transformed my life and this movement is about making physical activity accessible, supportive and fun for everyone."
Defying the odds, she taught herself to walk and run again and has since completed more than 50 endurance events.
As part of the campaign, Esmée will run 5,000km over 99 days, travelling to each participating city on foot.
Campaign officials said the focus during events which run from June 27 to October 3 focuses on inclusivity, mental wellbeing, and community connection, rather than competition.
The Nation's 5K will be held in every city nationwide and will be open to all fitness levels and abilities.
A spokesperson for The Nation’s 5K said it is working with local businesses to enter workplace teams and support community health initiatives.
Charity partners include Wings for Life and Sport in Mind, with funds raised supporting spinal injury research, mental health initiatives, and community causes selected by the public.
