Pickleball coaching and a cinema screening are just some of the ways foster carers in East Riding were recently celebrated.
Foster carers in the region were celebrated during Foster Care Fortnight with a series of free events for carers and the children they support, beginning with one-to-one Pickleball coaching.
Merlin Joseph, executive director for children, families and schools, thanked foster families for their compassion, resilience, and daily impact.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and schools, said: "Foster carers are amazing and I’m delighted we have marked Foster Care Fortnight by celebrating our fabulous families and thanking them for the life-changing impact they make to children and young people."
The fortnight wrapped up with a pink-carpet cinema event at Parkway Cinema, where 78 foster carers enjoyed a private film screening, snacks, drinks, and the chance to connect with one another.
Future events are planned, including a nature walk and a day at Boffy’s Play Café in Pocklington for families with younger children.
East Riding Fostering offers comprehensive support for carers, including dedicated social workers, training, and regular social events, alongside financial allowances and other benefits.
