A VEHICLE engine has caught fire in a York suburb.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a crew from Harrogate was called after an SUV engine set alight in the Hopgrove area of the city around 7.30pm yesterday (Saturday, May 30).

A service spokesperson said: "The crew used a hose reel jet to cool the engine and fully extinguish the fire.

"They also used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature."
