A STRETCH of a major Yorkshire road is likely to be ‘closed for a while’ today after a police incident.

The A1(M) is currently closed in both directions, between junctions 39 and 41 after a serious police incident that National Highways have now confirmed is a crash.

The motorway is also closed between J40 and 41, aswell as the A162 to the M62 Ferrybridge Roundabout, with the full closure totalling around seven miles.

It was first reported around 6.45am today (April 16), with closures still in place at 3pm this afternoon.

“The road is likely to remain closed for a while, please plan ahead,” said a spokesperson for National Highways – adding that local diversions are in place with a full list found here.

All emergency services were at the scene.
