POLICE are advising motorists in York to allow for extra travel time due to an event planned on city roads.

A Traveller community-led pony and trap procession is being held between 11.30 and 5pm on Saturday, April 18, and North Yorkshire Police officer James Dye said it is believed to be starting in James Street.

PC Dye said: "The potential route could take it up to New Earswick, towards Water Lane, along South Bank and back to James Street.

"This could be in the opposite way round or changes could be made on the day.

"We will be working dynamically in order to ensure minimal disruption throughout the day.

"This message is for awareness to allow for extra travel time."

PC Dye added that the event was run last year and presented some traffic disruption.
