TRADERS from across York and the county are currently putting the finishing touches on their stalls ahead of York's Christmas Market.

Starting from tomorrow (Thursday, November 13), the five-and-a-half week event ending on December 21 will see traders lining Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square in their 'Alpine Chalets’ – offering everything from soap to meatballs.

Organised by Make It York, the market is said to highlight the best of the city with 85 per cent of traders from Yorkshire, and all food stalls proudly representing the best of the region.

Open from 10.30am to 7pm, seven days a week, the market will have a ‘designated quiet time’ between 10am and 12pm which is a music free period that Make It York says is intended to avoid overwhelm for some attendees.

This change to opening time was discussed earlier this month following concerns over Blue Badge holders’ access to the city being restricted during the six-week event.

Restrictions will be in place from 10.30am to 7pm daily from Thursday, November 13 to Sunday, December 21.

A Quiet Oasis will again be available, thanks to the partnership with St Sampson's Centre and City of York Council with the centre, located at Church Street (YO1 8BE), will be open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
