York-based Abingdon Health plc has announced a US contract worth US$2million (about £1.5million).

The medical testing kit company, which operates firm the York Biotech Campus at Sand Hutton, has announced the deal with an unnamed US firm.

The Company has signed a Master Service Agreement ("MSA") with a US-based company for the development and scale up to manufacture of a semi-quantitative, multiplex lateral flow test system.

The MSA covers the feasibility, optimisation, scale-up, and technical transfer to manufacturing of the test for multiple analytes (substances of interest).

The project is expected to take approximately 24 months through works orders under the MSA which are expected to total around US$2 million.

The project will be run from  Abingdon ‘s Madison, Wisconsin facilities, which opened earlier this year.

Abingdon says this contract win is another example of the strength of its Abingdon Health's

Health's CDMO (contract development and manufacturing organisation) which provides customers with comprehensive support to take an idea through to commercial success.

The expansion of the Company's Madison, Wisconsin, USA manufacturing capabilities, which is being accelerated following the recent £3.2m (net) fundraise and placing , satisfies the increasing demand from USA-based customers requiring development and manufacture.

Abingdon says it is well placed to do this and has the benefit of being supported by the Group's full CDMO and regulatory services offering from York, UK.

Company chairman Dr Chris Hand said: “This contract award demonstrates the value of our comprehensive CDMO platform, and the benefit of our dual sites in USA and UK. It also illustrates the power and flexibility of lateral flow testing.

“The ability to measure multiple analytes semi-quantitatively, in a single test system, illustrates the utility of lateral flow testing beyond the more widely known single parameter qualitative 'yes/no' devices.

"The expertise and experience of Abingdon scientists and the full end-to-end CDMO service offering continues to resonate well with current and potential clients."
