A RESIDENTIAL care home in North Yorkshire has been rated as Good following a visit from a watchdog.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors found Highfield Care Home in Tadcaster was providing quality support to all 35 residents living in the home during their recent inspection.

Highfield is a residential home that offers support to adults of all ages, including those living with dementia, and is registered for 66 people.

The report, which was based on an assessment that took place from September 24 to  October 1, said that the home was rated Good in all categories: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led.

Inspectors found that staff had received training in safeguarding people from abuse and understood their responsibilities; they were well-equipped to support residents while managing risks and respecting individual choices.

The report said: "There were sufficient staff deployed, and staff received the training and support they needed to undertake their roles effectively."

During the inspection, concerns were raised regarding the management and administration of medicines, which were found to be safe on one unit but not consistently on another, but the report said the manager acted ‘promptly’ by implementing additional oversight and checks.

The CQC also commended the home for its thorough assessments conducted with residents and their relatives prior to their admission.

Care records were regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring that staff worked effectively with health and social care professionals.

The report indicated that assessments of residents' capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) applications were made where necessary.
