THE latest phase of roadworks on a major road in York are set to run until just before Christmas.
City of York Council says that the latest stage of the Station Gateway project will affect Queen Street and Station Road until Friday, December 19.

In a traffic order that runs on from one which expired at the end of October, work will continue on the road in front of York Railway Station.
In September City of York Council said there would be “a number of key changes” to the area outside the front of the station in the coming weeks.
Overall the Station Gateway scheme is expected to cost £25.7 million.
And this follows changes made earlier this year to move four bus stops on the city walls side of Station Road, which serve 22 routes, to a “more spacious” location.
As The Press has reported, the Station Gateway scheme has seen the demolition of Queen Street Bridge, which was built in 1877 to go over railway tracks that are no longer there.
Work underway under Queen Street during the York Station Gateway project
The Station Gateway project aims to ‘completely transform the area to the front of York Station’ with enhanced public spaces and an improved transport interchange.
Recent work on the project has seen the realignment of traffic in Queen Street and the opening of large areas of public space, as well as less visible work such as drainage and the installation of new water and electricity supplies.
Cllr Kate Ravilious, executive member for transport at City of York Council, said: “It is great to see further progress happening in the area and we are now able to get a good idea of how the finished scheme will look.
“The new public spaces and reduced congestion will be very welcome improvements to this part of York and I look forward to when everybody can enjoy this transformed space.

“Buses will continue to serve the station, so we encourage people to use our local bus services to get around.
“In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone again for their continued patience while this complex project is being delivered.”
