On this day in September 27, 2015, a host of celebrities were spotted around Copmanthorpe during the village's second annual Scarecrow Weekend.

The event featured famous figures from radio star Chris Evans to beloved characters such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Harry Potter, Peppa Pig, and the lovable Minions, alongside more traditional scarecrow offerings.

The top prize from the event went to children from the village's out-of-school club, who brought SpongeBob Squarepants to town with their creation titled Bottom of the Deep Blue Sea.

Organiser Rebecca Craven noted that as many as 500 people had visited Copmanthorpe to see the displays, with scarecrows springing up in 40 locations around the village.

The festival had grown since its first appearance the previous year, when only 25 scarecrows took part.

The weekend was staged by the gardeners of Copmanthorpe's Sprouts Community Garden, with funds raised going to Sprouts and the village youth club, which operated a café providing refreshments during the event.
