Anti-social behaviour has more than halved in two York areas amid a police crackdown, data shows.
North Yorkshire Police said officers identified Ethel Ward, in Haxby, and Foxwood Lane, in Foxwood, as being among the 45 anti-social behaviour hotspots in the county.
The force’s figures for anti-social behaviour from between April 2023 and March 2024 reveal there was a 76.92 per cent reduction in Ethel Ward and a 61.9 per cent drop in Foxwood Lane.
A force spokesperson said the results were down to a new Home Office funded hot spot policing initiative, which aims to make people feel safer in their communities
Superintendent Victoria Taylor, North Yorkshire Police’s head of local policing support, said: “Hot spot policing has not only delivered impressive reductions in crime but has also led to tangible results in protecting vulnerable residents.
"The feedback from communities across the North Yorkshire Police force region shows that our hard work is being noticed, and that people are feeling safer.”
The police spokesperson said: "The good news is that the scheme will be continued this year, and further information on this will be released from the Home Office shortly."
They added: “Anti-social behaviour takes many forms, from aggressive, noisy or abusive behaviour to neighbourhood disturbances involving drugs, abandoned cars or animals.
