Children at a primary school marked Remembrance Day by planting handmade poppies.
Pupils and staff at Park Grove Primary Academy observed the two-minute silence on Monday, November 11 before a reading of the poem, In Flanders Fields.
Captain Shaun Major, a soldier from Strensall Barracks, also attended the event.
Music teacher Victoria Clinton played the Last Post on her trombone, with the final notes coinciding with the Minster bells ringing at 11am.
Lucy Hemsley, Year 4/5 class teacher and design and technology lead, said: "Britain at war was our topic this term and we wanted the children to understand the significance of these wars and how we remember the lives lost in all wars."
The children visited Eden Camp, the World War II museum near Malton, to explore the museum's poppy memorial.
Captain Major, of HQ2 Med Group, Strensall, addressed the assembly before the planting.
He said: "It’s really important children know what this day means to soldiers and they understand what Armistice Day is."
Local stores, Boyes and Duttons for Buttons, donated items for the children to create their own poppies, which were planted on the school field.
Some staff at the school have family connections to the military through the army at Strensall Barracks and the civil service.
