YORK was heavily targeted by air raids during the Second World War, with these photos from our archive showing scenes of devastation in the city centre and suburbs.
In total there were ten raids between 1940 and 1942, with the most notable being the Baedeker Raid, when in early hours of April 29, 1942 bombs rained down on the city for two hours.
