A DIESEL locomotive, which was built in 1961, will pass through York next month.
Alycidon is one of six surviving Deltic class locomotives which used to race from London to Edinburgh, and has been restored by charity The Deltic Preservation Society.
Peter Kennan, company secretary of the Deltic Preservation Society, said: “It has taken a long time and a lot of money but the locomotive is back where it needs to be, travelling at 100mph on the main lines of the UK.
“The challenges have been immense, but everyone who has seen or heard a Deltic will know that every hour put in by our volunteers was worth it when the locomotive is in full cry.”
The diesel returns to the East Coast main line on Saturday, April 6, and will pass through York at 8.55am and 8.31pm on the return journey.
