The Back o’ The Shop Gallery, in Terrington, marks its first anniversary with next week’s opening of Brian and Sally Tozer’s exhibition of ceramic sculpture.
“We can’t believe it’s been 12 months already,” says Ian Hughes, who runs the Main Street gallery with Shelley Hughes and Paul Richmond.
“We’ve had some great exhibitions and met some marvellously talented artists and we would like to thank everyone who has supported our venture.
“This anniversary show is something very special; we’re very honoured to host an exhibition by Ryedale’s very talented duo, Brian and Sally Tozer.”
Brian and Sally were an integral part of the ceramic art scene around their home city of Hull, working from their studio space at the Humberside Theatre until it closed in 1983.
The following year they uprooted their family to Pickering, setting up their studio at Rock Cottage, since when they have entered annual art shows, run children’s workshops and become potters in residence in various schools.
After spending the past 30 years involved with community classes and projects, they have decided to concentrate on their own art work. “So, here at the Back o’ The Shop, we’re thrilled to have been chosen to showcase their work,” says Ian.
The exhibition will run from August 30 to September 27, open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Anyone wanting to attend next Friday’s preview, when Brian and Sally will attend, should subscribe to the mailing list on www.backotheshop.co.uk/mailinglist.php
