Spark York launches £7 menu – our verdict on the best dishes
GREAT food at £7 or under sounds very tempting.
That's what's on offer at one of York's most popular venues in a drive to win over mid-week customers.
Spark: York in Piccadilly has launched its Spark 7 menu, offering nine dishes from a range of its street food stall holders, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12pm – 9pm.

The team invited a group of York Press reviewers down on a Wednesday night after work to sample the menu.
Here's our verdict:
Onion bhajis (£6) from Sarras - these came as a quartet and we fought over them (there were were six of us out for post-work snacks and drinks). These were nice and crispy with a warren of soft, savoury, and lightly spiced onions inside. Yum.
Corn ribs (£5) from Clucking Oinks - these vegan corn ribs, oozing with hot spicy butter are a taste sensation and a must-have. So perfectly cooked, the corn was falling off the cob. Take extra napkins, you will need them! A 10 out of 10 winner.

Bruschetta Pomodoro (£6) from Tiro Sicilian. These had a nice crispy base, topped with tangy tomato and sweet balsamic – perfect for a light summer bite. But you'd want more to fill you up.
Pizzette (£6) from RAD Pizza Shop - ooh, this was quite lovely, pillow-y bread dough with a creamy, almost sweet topping. Save this til last and it could double as dessert.

Falafel and Houmous (£6.50) from SASA Greek - the four rounds of falafel were very good, nice and herby with a crunchy outer layer and soft rather than dry and crumbly inside. Loved the creamy houmous – and the cool cubes of cucumber were welcome too.

Strips, chips and dip (£5.50) from Junk Soul Smothered - a tray of crispy vegan 'chickn' goujons with chips and a bbq sauce. Our vegan reviewer liked the salt and pepper flavouring on the fake chicken, and while the chips were welcome, they were nothing spesh.
Labneh sandwich (£6.95) from Waqif Arabian - now we are talking! This was one of the highlights. A traditional Arabian naan stuffed with creamy labneh (a soft Middle Eastern cheese), mint, pickled wild cucumbers, olives, tomato, sumac, and fries.

It was filling, and the best value of what we tried. The naan bread was nice and light, not too stodgy, which allowed the other ingredients to sing - we enjoyed the combo of fresh, creamy, sweet and slightly sour notes. One to share with a friend and split another dish from the Spark 7 menu .... our choice would be the corn ribs!
