LEEDS United manager Dennis Wise has no plans to recall striker Jermaine Beckford from his loan spell at Scunthorpe despite a long injury list at Elland Road.

Beckford, who was a prolific goal-scorer with Ryman League club Wealdstone before joining Leeds, has impressed at Scunthorpe.

Wise said: "Jermaine has done okay there, but at this level I am not so sure at the moment. That is why we sent him out on loan.

"He has scored a couple of goals but I have players here in his position who are well capable. I couldn't play him ahead of them if he was here and it would be unfair to put pressure on a young striker in our situation.

"Jonathan Howson has come in and done well in midfield but you have to be careful with young players."

Casper Ankergren, United's Danish goalkeeper, is convinced relegation from the Championship can be avoided and he wants to stay at Elland Road beyond the summer. Ankergren has quickly won over the fans, conceding just two goals in his three games on loan from Brondby and keeping a clean sheet against QPR in midweek.

He said: "Everybody at the club believes we can stave off relegation. I would like to stay at Leeds. It is a major club. I like the city, the country and the way English football is played."

Struggling Leeds were at Wolves today and on Tuesday go to Birmingham City before entertaining Sheffield Wednesday a week today.
