IT is The Press Player of the Month time following yesterday’s match against Featherstone, but before then it’s time for a Press Player of the Year update.

There have now been four games since the standings were last reported in this column, all in March: away to Sheffield, the big win over Workington, that bobbins effort at Keighley, and then yesterday’s salvation against Featherstone.

As always, three points are awarded to The Press’ man of the match, with two given to the next best player on the day and one to the third best.

Against Sheffield, the winners were Jonny Presley (3), Josh Bowden (2) and, on his seasonal debut, George Elliott (1).

Against Workington, when any number of players probably deserved some reward, they were Matty Nicholson (3), Jack Lee (2) and Tom Carr (1).

Against Keighley, they were Jack Briscoe (3), Adam Sullivan (2), by virtue of playing through a knee problem, an injection in which ruled him out of the following two games, and Presley (1), who was arguably the least worst of the rest.

Yesterday, they were Simon Brown (3), Nicholson (2) and Carr (1).

A bonus three points are awarded to whoever tops the poll of readers and lifts the Player of the Month award. To vote, follow the link on the Knights section of The Press’ website, thepress.co.uk or email your choice to peter.martini@thepress.co.uk by noon on Wednesday.

If anyone would like to sponsor the Player of the Year or Player of the Month awards, email peter.martini@thepress.co.uk or phone 01904 567137.

The Press Player of the Year standings: Nicholson 8pts, Aldous 7, Scott 5, Brown 4, Presley 4, Briscoe 4, Lee 3, Carr 3, Hadley 3, Lineham 3, Sullivan 2, Golden 2, Bowden 2, Elliott 1.
