FORMER York City giant-killer Paul Baker is hoping to turn the tables on his old club when they go to Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Baker made his mark in one of the most famous David-beating-Goliath shocks when he came on for City and got sent off against Manchester United in the 1995 Coca-Cola Cup turnover.

And he is now looking to use that experience - and the natural cup-fighting instincts of his Newcastle side - against York City.

"I'm over the moon and ecstatic about it," he said. "It's funny because I was there just a few weeks ago and I was messing about and said to a few people we've got Guiseley in the next round, we could get you in the next round' and lo and behold that's how it's turned out."

The club are rivalling Baker's personal giant-killing status as they last year reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase.

Benfield's passage so far has hardly been a cakewalk with three away ties and one replay. The preliminary stage saw them draw 3-3 with fellow Arngrove Northern League division one side Ryton before defeating them 2-0 in the return leg.

Since that first leg of the competition, Benfield have kept clean sheets all through as they beat UniBond League Cammell Laird 2-0, Nationwide North Hyde United 2-0 and 'keeper Andrew Grainger was the star of the show at Guiseley as they pipped them with a 1-0 win.

The trip to the small ground will come as a shock to City - there are no stands, no terracing and limited shelter from the elements - but Baker, along with fellow ex-City assistant Paddy Atkinson, is relishing the chances that brings.

He said: "As soon as the draw was made, the chairman was on the phone about switching it but I said no' straight-away.

"It will be a good money-spinner for us and I thought that if there's any chance we can go through and beat them, it's going to be at home.

"The players are going to think Oh my God, what am I doing here' - and I've been there myself at York and with Hartlepool and I know you can come unstuck that way.

"I am sure Billy McEwan will have them well fired up and we know Steve Bowey quite well - we actually gave him a lift home the other week - and we know that he'll be revving the players up too."

He added: "I'm obviously looking forward to the tie and hopefully it will go well. But you never know what might happen in the cup."

City manager McEwan was unavailable to comment on the draw.

Neil Aspin's Harrogate Town have been handed a tough tie at Nationwide Conference outfit Tamworth just seven days after City go to the Lambs in league action.

Said Aspin: "It could have been an easier draw and it's going to be difficult away from home, but we've been fortunate in the two previous draws to have teams that are below us in the pyramid.

"I think this is a good test for us to see what sort of standard we are at compared to a Conference team."

If Scarborough make it past Ossett Albion in tonight's replay at the McCain Stadium, they will face a trip to Stafford Rangers.
