YORK City Knights will relish an away tie with Widnes Vikings in the quarter-finals of the Northern Rail Cup, according to director of rugby James Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe admitted he would have preferred a home tie in last night’s draw, but welcomed the opportunity for the club to test themselves against a Championship side.

“We knew we were going to get a tough draw, but you want to be playing the top teams,” he said.

“We will approach every game by trying to win it, but the priority at the moment is the Championship One game at Dewsbury on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, the club’s reserve-grade academy side were beaten 28-18 at Dewsbury in a friendly last night.

Tries from Dan Walton and Sam Blaney made it 12-12 at half-time and Adam Jones scored after the break. Luke Watling kicked all three conversions.

Northern Rail Cup quarter-final draw: Widnes v YORK CITY KNIGHTS, Oldham v Featherstone, Halifax v Leigh, Barrow v Dewsbury. Ties to be played between June 4 and 7.
