COACH Paul Higgins hailed a "great team performance" after York City Knights' 21-10 reserve grade academy victory over Featherstone Rovers.
The Knights forged into a 16-6 half-time lead at Huntington Stadium last night after tries by hooker Chris Varley, centre Sam Blaney and second-rower Oliver Wilcox-Harrison, with full-back Mark Wilson adding two conversions.
The visitors, who drew 18-18 with the Knights in the reverse fixture, hit back with an unconverted try after the break, but outstanding stand-off Danny Grice bagged a drop goal and Wilson kicked two penalties to seal the win.
Higgins said: "We only had 15 players. We really defended well in the second half and dug deep to get the victory."
Former Wakefield and Castleford youngster Grice is bidding to win a contract with the Knights.
Said Higgins: "He was excellent in the first half. He showed a great kicking game and set up some tries. He went really well."
