YORK City Knights are sweating on the fitness of winger Tommy Saxton ahead of Saturday's play-off semi-final.

The veteran wideman suffered a groin injury in the defeat at Keighley Cougars nine days ago, the Knights' last game of the regulation Kingstone Press League One season, and remains doubtful for this weekend's knockout trip to Toulouse.

Austin Buchanan is already looking highly unlikely to make the journey due to knee ligament damage and if former Hull outside-back Saxton remains sidelined too it will leave head coach James Ford without his two most experienced wingers for the biggest game of the year.

Brothers Ben and Adam Dent are both on stand-by, while the former Bradford winger-turned-prop Andy Smith is another option out wide.

Meanwhile, Castleford loanee Brandon Westerman is also rated only 50-50 at this stage due to the arm injury he suffered against Doncaster 12 days ago.

However, prop forwards Russ Spiers and Brett Waller, full-back James Haynes and half-back Jonny Presley are all in contention to boost the ranks after resting out the Keighley match.

Richard Wilkinson, who made a surprise return for that game at Cougar Park having "retired" two months earlier after losing his place in the team, is also in the running, with Ford having available his full range of options at full-back and half-back.
