YORK City Knights boss James Ford has admitted he has a big selection headache ahead of Sunday's key Kingstone Press League One clash with Newcastle Thunder - who to play at full-back.

Fit-again team skipper James Haynes returned to his number one berth with aplomb after a 12-match absence to take the sponsors' man-of-the-match award in Saturday night's 50-10 win over Gloucestershire All Golds.

But his exit after an hour of the match at Elmpark Way allowed Ben Dent to revert from the wing to full-back - and within four minutes he scored a superb try, having flown up in support in centre-field after a run by Ed Smith.

Dent is also one of League One's leading scorers this term, all 108 of his points having come from the full-back position he took while Haynes was on the sidelines.

Ford admitted he now had plenty of food for thought ahead of the visit of their play-off rivals this coming weekend, the venue for which is yet to be confirmed as the community stadium negotiations rumble on.

"I've got a lot of trust in James back there," said Ford, having already hailed Haynes' successful return immediately after the All Golds match.

"He defends well and he's got that knack of turning momentum in a game when we're under the cosh - he beats a couple of people and turns defence into attack.

"He's good with his leadership as well. It's really pleasing to have him back.

"But Ben Dent has been very good there for a number of weeks.

"It's a good headache to have.

"I have confidence in both of them and the person who is most consistent will get the regular position."

Dent, the club's top try-scorer last season with 20 in 23 appearances, all on the wing, played only once out wide this year before switching to full-back in mid-April after Haynes' old back problems resurfaced. He has since scored nine tries in 13 appearances, while Haynes has three from seven.

"If you had asked me this time last year, I would have said Ben Dent is an out-and-out winger," said Ford.

"Some of his finishes were unbelievable - if someone like Tommy Makinson (of St Helens) had finished them, they would have been all over Sky Sports News.

"He's run at full-back this year, though, and he's done really well, so much so I'm thinking now he might be a full-back.

"I definitely see them competing for the position and it will be interesting to see who wins it come the end of the season."
