YORK City Knights boss James Ford has not ruled out a return to the club of rangy prop Nathan Freer.

The out-of-contract 25-year-old forward has managed only 20 appearances in two seasons, and has not played since May 11, primarily due to a worrying head injury and bouts of nausea in training.

His career has also stalled since being named The Press Player of the Year in 2011 due to studying, a rugby union contract and work commitments, all after an aborted spell with at Featherstone Rovers. But Ford still sees plenty of talent in the big man, whose rugby league knowledge is also on the increase due to his present position as a conditioning coach at Hull FC.

"Nathan is doing really well at Hull, gaining great experience," said Ford.

"When he knows his (work and fitness) situation a bit more we can have a more detailed chat with him about what he thinks he can commit to.

"But I haven't ruled anything out. He's a good player and gives us something different as a middle player. If he chooses to continue his rugby league career I'm sure he can develop even more with us."
