YORK City Knights endured a new injury blow last night as Kriss Brining suffered a recurrence of a neck injury while playing in the Under-20s Championship loss against Featherstone.

The teenage hooker, playing at loose-forward, scored a try to get his side in the game having fallen 18-0 down early on, but then had to leave proceedings.

His departure also meant Harry Carter had to play all 80 minutes at hooker on his return from a fractured leg. Carter was another try-scorer, along with the impressive Jake Joynt, Jack Pickles and Ryan Parker, in a 52-26 defeat. Adam Dent added three goals.

The Knights had fielded a team mainly made up of last year’s U18s, plus a couple of 17-year-old debutants, including Heworth ARLC’s Danny Simpson, and only one overage player in 21-year-old back-rower Pickles, while Featherstone had four overage players, including Scotland full-back Dave Scott, who scored a hat-trick.
