3:00pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in News
By Steve Carroll, Sports reporter
DEFENDER Jamal Fyfield is the latest player to sign up for York City's Football League revolution.
The 23-year-old has put pen to paper this afternoon on a one-year deal with an option to extend.
Fyfield played a significant role in the Minstermen's successful campaign last season, performing at both left-back and centre-back as the Minstermen secured promotion.
Meanwhile, City also revealed they have arranged a pre-season friendly against Premier League outfit Sunderland at Bootham Crescent on August 7 (kick off 7.30pm). Ticket information is to follow.

Not for me, way to lightweight and error prone. He should never have been retained.

If we are going to sign borderline players the likes of Challiner who for me had a very good season and even Doig would have been above him in my list.

Steve Bruce correctly called it when he said post match that we were a good side and that we would be there or there abouts for promotion at the end of the season!! Only sorry Steve's season wasn't as successful but hope that Martin O'Neill gives us the thumbs up for a successful 2012/13 and hope Sunderland also do well!

City are it seems trying to bring Jonathan Smith back to the club. Now he is a player I rated at city.

Played a significant part including the superb cross for Matty at Luton which got us to the trophy final and the dinked ball for Jason to cross for Matty to win the play off semi. Absolutely vital goals.

Not sure Smith would hold down a regular place but could be ok as cover. Would really like to see Doig signed up and Challinor too.

Would be better suited to a higher, non clogging, level. Bad move for him.

There is budget and team spirit to think about. We do not want a load of players grumbling that they are not getting a regular game and causing unrest.

That is the reallity of signing the likes of Jamal and Danny P, both assets to the club as good squad men that will not have demanded star player wages. Manage the budget to allow for the signing of the few regular first team players we need to take us to the next level.

While I can understand your point of view I still feel retaining players that will probably make half a dozen appearances a season is a waste, i woukd add the likes of Moke and Potts to that list. Lets be honest there are hundreds if players with potential that never move forward. I would rather retain a player like Challiner who played a far bigger part last season and was way more reliable. Fyfield could come good, but I won't hold my breath.

duffy wrote:Duffy, I would also like to see Challinor and Doig re-sign . I suspect they may be offered contracts dependant upon who comes in and who goes out in the next week or so, and whether we can get better younger players given their age. I guess Mills is prepared to take the gamble that they may find somewhere else in the interim , but they are getting on agewise and their options will be limited.
