York City sign striker Oli Johnson
9:45am Tuesday 26th June 2012 in News
YORK City today signed striker Oli Johnson.
The 24-year-old frontman put pen to paper at Bootham Crescent a month after being released by Oxford United.
Johnson started his Football League career with Stockport County and moved on to Norwich City.
He had joined Oxford in January following two loan spells with Yeovil Town last year.

Should fit in well in Milly's 433 system.
Hope you soon prove Oxford to be wrong!

'Good player with pace. Lively and a handful for opponents. Scored on debut. Chances limited at Norwich. Should do well for you at York'

I live in Stockport so saw his early career. Did well for County as more of a tricky (and pacy) winger. Got his big move as County were desperate for money, but since then it's been mixed to say the least.
I think the dury is out on this one big time, as he needs to have stay somewhere for a while and really prove himself.
Wont get 20 goals or anywhere near, but if he can get 10, and the same assists that will be fine.

In the Darlington Northern Echo last Saturday the new manager Martin Gray mentioned York City are in talks with John McReady excellant young midfielder one of the few to shine at Darlo last season, played really well in the last half of the season considering all the big names had quite rightly jumped ship.

In all honesty you cant blame them, but the question is are they being realuistic?

Thought Darlo had gone bust and all new contracts with Darlo1883 were on a non contract basis?

I think darlo are playing games and attempting to hold city to ransom and squeeze more than we are willing to pay.The club wont break the bank for any player. If darlo are been greedy and trying to take advantage of the situtation well more fool them as gary mills will just move on to his next target .i would have thought the player dosnt see it as darlo do .i would have thouoght he sees it more of Darlo holding him back when he could be a league 2 player.instead hes left rotting in a league 4 or 5 levels (only a guess) below us

Welcome Oli! Possible an intelligent signing with lots to prove. Rumoursville on the outlaws is that James Meredith will not be joining Watford as he has failed a medical. Really hope he stays for another season or two at City! Cut & paste:
Posted by ChampHornet on June 26, 2012, 4:40 pmMeredith has never had injury problems.

Hmm interesting I hope it goes well for all concerned but this seems as though it could be the next Henderson coming here to get career back on track but not making an impact.

He has struggled with injuries and it has been said by one or two his attitude could be better. However he looks to be on a different level to Henderson.

York City's latest signing Oli Johnson could offer a thrilling prospect at Bootham Crescent, according to supporters at a couple of his former club.
"He had pace and enthusiasm and was loved by fans for just going for it" - Drayton Green
The ex-Norwich City and Stockport County forward has become the Minstermen's second summer signing after being released by Division Two rivals Oxford United at the end of last season.
"Nothing special in my eyes, put in a couple of good performances," Vital Norwich's FCBEARS told us. "He is a League 1 player and in League 2 with you guys he should do okay. He is a forward, but Yeovil seemed to play him on the wing?"
"He had pace and enthusiasm and was loved by fans for just going for it," added fellow Canary, Drayton Green. "If he still has these he should be good for you. He can also finish well. Got us a fair few points in League 1."
"Well he's nearly Aussie - Oli, Oli, Oli, Oy, Oy, Oy!" chanted Steve from Oz, while Yellow Belly admitted: "I quite liked him in League 1. An honest guy and he ran and ran for the cause."
"Oli will do you proud!" Fanforlife assured us, which appeared to be backed up as Aveitncfc chipped in with: "I always thought Oli was quality, very surprised Oxford didn't keep him. He will do awesome in that league with his electric pace going forward."
Meanwhile, over at Stockport, where Johnson first burst upon the professional scene four years ago, County fan Andy added: "He really does have talent but feel he needs to be managed well.
"A bit like Liam Dickenson who left County as billy big-boots and has not developed at all. Hope Oli realises his potential as he will be a real asset to you and worth a few bob in the next year or two."
