YORK City's Under-19's maintained their excellent start to the new league season with a 1-0 victory over the Guiseley academy.

Tim Ryan's side find themselves at the top of the National League U19's Alliance North Division after three matches, accumulating seven points so far this season.

Harry Burland’s first-half strike gifted the young Minstermen the three points, with the under-19’s able to hold out for back-to-back wins and clean sheets.

City started strong inside the opening two minutes and could have gone ahead early on after George Harrison found himself one-on-one with the Guiseley goalkeeper, but his strike trickled narrowly wide of the target.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net after sixteen minutes, but the linesman's flag spared York's blushes.

York took the lead after 26 minutes through Burland, who dropped his left shoulder to send the defender the wrong way, before expertly directing the ball home from a tight angle.

Alex Hernandez had a brilliant opportunity to double City’s lead six minutes before the break, but the Lions shot-stopper was on hand to parry away a fierce effort.

Heading into the second half, substitute Bailey Wilson rounded the goalkeeper in the area, but couldn't double York's advantage as his effort from a narrow angle was parried clear.

Guiseley thought they had stolen a late point with time running out, but once again in the game they were deemed offside at the back post following a cross.

York goalkeeper Sam Taylor also made three important saves throughout the game, ensuring the Minstermen kept back-to-back clean sheets.

The Young Minstermen are back in action when they take on Workington AFC in the FA Youth Cup, with details to be released on the York City website.
