ONE of the most delighted spectators at Bootham Crescent for the visit of the Blades was York City goalkeeping legend Graeme Crawford.
The man whose illustrious career at the Crescent featured 280 appearances and a share of the then Football League record of 11 consecutive clean sheets, was the guest of Sheffield United manager David Weir, who is Crawford’s nephew.
Weir, the former Everton, Glasgow Rangers and Scotland central defender, took charge of the Blades in the summer in what is his first managerial job and Crawford was thrilled at the prospect.
Said the one-time Minstermen number one: “He’s had a brilliant career as a player and I am hoping he will have the same as a manager.
It’s always something he has wanted to go into.”
