YORK City manager Gary Mills praised his much-changed team after last night’s 1-0 home victory over Grimsby Town.

Leon Constantine – one of five players brought into the side – scored the only goal of the match on 19 minutes and the performances of Jamie Reed, Andre Boucaud, Danny Racchi and Peter Till also left the City boss “over the moon” at the final whistle.

The City boss said: “I was absolutely over the moon with the performance. I thought the lads were magnificent and on the front foot from the very start.

“I felt the 1-0 win flattered them. It was a massive win for us and I’d like to give tremendous credit to every single one of the players that came in.

“Some of them haven’t played many games but you would have thought they’ve been performing week in, week out and they all know they are a big part of our squad. We’ve got to make sure Jamie Reed is right mentally and physically but he showed what a good player he will be for us.

“Leon Constantine’s goal was pure quality. I like Leon.

“He’s had a good career and I think he can go on for a good few years yet, because he’s got a great attitude.

“He doesn’t like not being in the side but has had no problems because of how well Michael Rankine has been playing.

“Every time I put him on the pitch, though, he seems to score and is sending me a message.”

Rankine, Neil Barrett and Ashley Chambers all missed last night’s match with knocks, while on-loan midfielder Robbie Weir has returned to Sunderland.

About his situation, Mills added: “I could not reach an agreement with Robbie to stay here before this match. I still hope something can be done but, if not, we will move on and Andre Boucaud was fantastic in midfield last night.”
