YORK City manager Martin Foyle has stressed avoiding injury and red cards will be his main concern during tomorrow’s match at champions Stevenage.

The result, meanwhile, is of secondary importance to the Minstermen chief.

Should City win, draw or lose at Broadhall Way, then they could still face either Oxford United or Luton Town in the play-off semi-finals.

Their fate will be decided elsewhere.

City could make assumptions that Oxford are unlikely to win at relegation-threatened Eastbourne and that Luton will not lose at Rushden to try and take control of their own destiny.

But Foyle feels making predictions on those two fixtures is pointless.

He said: “It’s impossible to forecast the outcome of the other results and decide what we need to do.

“We can only worry about ourselves at Stevenage and, then, get on with who we get.

“From our point of view, it would have been nice to know who we would get in advance because we could have concentrated on watching them but the other teams are in the same boat.

“It doesn’t make any difference at all whether we get Luton or Oxford – they are both good sides.”

Foyle added: “The atmosphere at Stevenage tomorrow will be a bit like our last home game with Player of the Year awards and a carnival feeling.

“They might takes their minds off the game and I don’t think it will be a decent match necessarily.

“It’s one in which the result doesn’t matter. We are already in the play-offs and the priority is to keep everybody clear of injury and red cards.”

Leading scorer Richard Brodie is the only City player still in danger of being suspended for an accumulation of bookings.

If he was cautioned tomorrow, Brodie would then enter the play-off semi-finals knowing that a yellow card in both legs would rule him out of any Wembley final on May 16.

But Foyle trusts his 36-goal striker to steer clear of trouble now, saying: “He’s done what I’ve asked him to do and been on 12 bookings for a long time. I have been pleased with his attitude and it hasn’t affected his form.

“He’s settled down and is playing in a relaxed manner again after all the yellow cards and transfer speculation.”

Foyle will have a fully-fit squad to choose from with central defender Djoumin Sangare back in full training.

The City boss added, however, that he was uncertain what kind of team Stevenage would pick ahead of their FA Trophy final against Barrow next month.

He said: “They have been the best side in the division. Whether they will be on song or play their best team, though, I haven’t got a clue.”

Play-off teasers

• A Luton victory at Rushden would mean at least a point for City at Stevenage would see them play Oxford. Defeat for City would see them facing Luton.

• Should Luton and Rushden draw and City win, the Minstermen would face Oxford unless Oxford won at Eastbourne. Then it would be Luton.

• Should Luton and Rushden draw and City fail to win at Stevenage, then City would face Luton unless Oxford won at Eastbourne. Then they would face Oxford.

• Should Rushden beat Luton, then City, regardless of their result at Stevenage, would again face Luton unless Oxford won at Eastbourne. Then they would play Oxford.
