YORK City manager Martin Foyle plans to launch an “all-out attack” on bottom-of-the-table Grays Athletic tomorrow (3pm).

The Minstermen will tackle Grays in their last home match before contesting the Blue Square Premier play-offs and Foyle wants to sign off at Bootham Crescent with a flourish.

But Grays, already relegated, won their first game since November during Tuesday night’s shock 2-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon. Foyle, therefore, is not expecting a walkover but, having won 4-0 at Grays last month, will send his side out with instructions to put Julian Dicks’ men to the sword.

He said: “Grays winning at Wimbledon was perhaps a surprise but some of their recent performances haven’t been bad. Stevenage still don’t know how they won 2-1 there and they are a young, committed team playing with no pressure whatsoever.

“Teams like that can catch you out but, even though we are expecting an awkward game, we will be going all-out attack.”

Should City beat Grays and Rushden fail to win at Wrexham, then the Minstermen cannot be caught by the Northamptonshire side, meaning Foyle’s team would avoid finishing fifth in the table which is the manager’s wish.

Djoumin Sangare is expected to train today after recovering from a knee injury and has been pencilled in for Tuesday’s North Riding Cup final against Stokesley.

Otherwise, City have a full-strength squad to choose from and Foyle is keen for all his players to stay focused.

Michael Gash got on the scoresheet for the first time since Boxing Day after coming off the bench in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Barrow.

Fellow striker Richard Pacquette also impressed Foyle during his cameo role as a substitute and Foyle has stressed how the pair could play important roles during the play-off tilt.

He said: “I was pleased for both of them. They had a spring in their step and are in my mind.

“We could be in a position where we are losing in the play-offs and need to throw on the forwards and I have a good set to choose from. It’s been a frustrating time for some players because we can’t play everybody and people are worried about contracts at this stage of the season.

“But I’m trying very hard to keep a happy ship because you don’t know what’s around the corner in terms of injuries, illness or whatever and this is the best group of players I have had for a long time. They have done whatever I have asked from them.”

Having witnessed melees during this month’s home games with Altrincham and Barrow, Foyle is also reminding his players to steer clear of trouble ahead of the play-offs.

City were fined £1,000 for “a failure to ensure their players’ conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” during the league game at Cambridge earlier this season, with the home side handed the same punishment.

Foyle now fears more FA sanctions but has declared his side’s innocence, saying: “Just like at Cambridge, we haven’t done anything but the authorities will want to know about it. Against Barrow, their lad kicked out at Chris Carruthers and James Meredith went to separate them and then got attacked by four of their players.

“Twelve of them then rushed in including their staff and none of our lads reacted until Michael Rankine came in later, but I think the lads needed his support.”
