ADAM HINSHELWOOD has praised the progress of his York City squad in recent weeks.

The York boss has been pleased by the evolution of his City squad after their recent unbeaten run stretched to four versus FC Halifax Town, with the Minstermen claiming 10 points from a possible 12, only to be denied the full 12 by a last minute equaliser against the Shaymen.

The recent run of form has seen York rise to 17th in the Vanarama National League, four points clear of safety, with a match against 16th position Eastleigh tomorrow afternoon at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm)

Hinshelwood has been happy with the impact of his midfield in recent weeks, and explained why he doesn't like to make widescale changes to his team selection unless forced to, with new addition Marvin Armstrong pleasing the boss with his impact.

“I knew all about Marv [Marvin Armstrong] and I think we said that with signings, you want to know about them personally," Hinshelwood enthused.

"I knew about Marv and the attitude that he could bring us, he’s been integral and I think it still can be moving forward.

"He’s only showing glimpses of what he can do and I think that there is even more to come from Marv, the good thing is that he will want to keep improving as well.

"He spent a lot of his Summer before he got the move [to Barnet] travelling down to Worthing to do training sessions together and improve his game.

"He’s a great lad who wants to keep on improving.

“We looked at it in that period when he came in and felt that us having three players in there would certainly help us.

"Hunty [Alex Hunt] has been excellent, Batts [Dan Batty] has been excellent alongside Marv and Billy Chadwick has come in as well.

"We know that we have got quality in that area, like we said there a big part of our success in recent weeks has been from them turning over the ball.

"We’ve got to maintain that until the end-of-the-season.

“When the team is doing well and performing well, all you want from the players is that when they get the opportunity to wear the shirt, they make it hard to leave them out.

"I feel that the players have been doing that, I haven’t felt the need for radical changes, it has been working and the players have been performing well to keep the shirt for the next game.

"With how the team has been doing well and not making radical changes, we have been fortunate on that side.

“The incentive now is two home games, to be perfectly honest I think that in the first couple of weeks it was tough to think about a home game.

"Now having seen how the fans can get behind us, it is a real place that we have got to relish and enjoy.

"We’ve got to get the fans on our side because Marv speaking from his experience of coming in as an away player, he knows how hostile it can be coming as an away player.

"We’ve got to relish that, it comes from us performing on the pitch and we’ve got to relish and enjoy it in back-to-back home games."

The recent installation of Callum Howe as captain has also made Hinshelwood happy, with the York manager pleased with the influence he has had on the team since his tenure began.

Hinshelwood told the Press: “I sort of made him my captain straight away, I knew that he was that sort of leader with leadership capabilities.

"Alongside Ryan [Fallowfield] it is the making of a really good centre-halve partnership together, they’ve got a little bit of everything.

"They can dominate in the air and have the pace on the turn too, I think with Callum he’s been asked to play a little bit different in terms of building attacks, but he’s growing a little bit more confident and he is growing into it.

"It’s with the throw-ins as well, bouncing it back to the full-back and going back the other way from throw-ins.

"For him to have the confidence to receive the ball in those tight areas is a big improvement and I think there is even more to come from him."
