FINLAY BARNES will spend the remaining of the 2023/2024 campaign on loan at Scarborough Athletic.

Barnes has returned to Scarborough on a loan deal until the end-of-the-season having initially joined the Seadogs in September, after a short spell with Darlington prior to that.

The 23-year-old made 15 appearances for Scarborough in all competitions, netting two goals in back-to-back fixtures against King's Lynn Town and Bishop's Stortford in the Vanarama National League North.

York City opted to recall Barnes in January which saw the midfielder earn minutes in the Vanarama National League, making six appearances and grabbing an assist in 3-1 defeat to AFC Fylde in March from a pinpoint corner kick.

Barnes had initially joined City in the Summer after a hugely-impressive spell with Leiston, having originally come through the academy of Sky Bet Championship outfit Norwich United.

But game time under newly-appointed manager Adam Hinshelwood has been limited in recent matches, with Barnes absent from the last three matchday squads, as the York boss has opted to let the midfielder return to Scarborough.

The Seadogs are currently struggling for form in the National League North, having failed to win any of their previous ten matches and slipping down to 13th in the sixth tier.

Barnes will be playing alongside fellow loanee Olly Dyson and former City shot-stopper Ryan Whitley, as Scarborough look to chase down the seven point gap that has formed between themselves and the play-off positions.

Barnes could make his second Scarborough debut with a trip to relegated Bishop's Stortford on Saturday, March 23 (3pm).
