ADAM HINSHELWOOD felt that the referee made the right decision to not send off Thierry Latty-Fairweather in York City's 1-0 victory over Aldershot Town on Saturday.

A 14th minute challenge from Latty-Fairweather sparked outrage from the Aldershot bench and in particular their manager Tommy Widdrington, after referee Andrew Miller elected to only show the York defender a yellow card.

However, Hinshelwood felt that the referee made the correct call whilst also understanding why Aldershot were aggravated, and hopes that it could be a sign that City's fortunes are changing with the Minstermen currently sat in 21st position of the Vanarama National League.

“It was just in front of us, it’s one of them," Hinshelwood explained.

"They’ll say it’s a red, we’ll say he’s arrived just a bit late, we would have been disappointed if it was a red, they were disappointed that it wasn’t.

"I think the referee has got it right in this stage of proceedings, but that’s the kind of luck that we need to go our way, and it probably hasn’t gone our way in recent weeks.

"Even in our first game here, I thought we put in an excellent performance, conceded just before half-time and that seemed to dent our lads confidence.

"It was nice to get a bit of luck and a break for a change."

Widdrington had told the Aldershot media team: “The precedence set by him (Miller, the referee) not doing the right thing on the challenge on Ryan Glover early in the game, I’ve been in the game for a very long time and that’s a red card in any era.

“It’s a naughty challenge, and then five minutes later he kicks the ball away.

“I said to the fourth official that we were getting yellow cards like it was confetti, thrown at us over anything.

"It just seems to have all gone away, there’s numerous things I could mention about the officials but it is a waste of time, it’s like talking to a brick wall.

“I really don’t know what you can or can’t do anymore, it’s a subject that’s not even worth talking about but it needs to be looked at by the people that appoint these lads because we’ve had so many this season which are below the level of the game.

“It really needs looking at.”
