York City boss Adam Hinshelwood has hinted towards a first start for goalkeeper Rory Watson since October.

George Sykes-Kenworthy was subject to two damaging errors in York’s 6-1 defeat to Altrincham on Tuesday night, with Hinshelwood admitting that the goalkeeper had taken the mistakes hard.

However, the York manager has ensured that he has put plans in place to ensure that Sykes-Kenworthy can recover from the defeat, and hinted towards a potential start for Watson in Saturday’s crucial match with Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

“We’ve got the goalkeeper coach Joe (Stead) checking in with him (Sykes-Kenworthy), he’s taking a bit of time out to spend some time with him,” Hinshelwood confirmed.

“He’ll be doing that and reporting back on how George is, we had a bit of a chat today with George and just said that as a young goalkeeper, this needs to be the making of him really.

“He’s got to use all of that disappointment and frustration that he felt on Tuesday night to motivate himself.

“He has to make sure that he learns that if he does make a mistake, then he has to learn from it and come back stronger.

“You can’t let one mistake affect you for a whole game.

“We’ll look at George and Rory, one thing I will say is that we have got two excellent goalkeepers here.

“George’s confidence took a big blow on Tuesday night and he’s got to own up to a few mistakes that he made, and he will do.

“He’s got to bounce back and we’ll look at it, see what’s best and whether he is in the right frame of mind.”

Hinshelwood also confirmed that goalkeeper and Head of Recruitment David Stockdale isn’t currently being considered, having not yet trained under the new management team, and spoke on a potential first start for Watson since October.

“We haven’t seen him (Stockdale) out on the training field, and we need to see him for two weeks.

“Rory is a top, top goalkeeper and he’s a great character, he’s a York lad so he will bring that passion and have strong demands of the players.

“That might be needed after a heavy defeat that we have had.”
