MITCH HANCOX has departed York City by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old midfielder initially joined York in October 2021 on a one-month loan deal, which was extended until the end-of-the-season in January 2022.

Hancox signed a permanent deal with the club upon the expiry of his loan spell after helping to guide the football club to promotion back into the Vanarama National League, starting in the side that defeated Boston United 2-0 in the Vanarama National League North play-off final.

The battling midfielder made 37 appearances in the 2021/22 season, before going on to make 45 appearances as a permanent member of the squad, signing a two-year contract extension in January 2023.

Hancox has found game time limited this season under Mikey Morton, Neal Ardley and Adam Hinshelwood, and endured a brief short-term loan spell with Hartlepool United in November.

He made seven appearances with the Poolies under former City boss John Askey, scoring one goal, alongside three outings for the Minstermen this campaign.

Hancox also had notable spells with Birmingham City, Macclesfield Town, Solihull Moors and Hereford, and is expected to join fellow Vanarama National League side Altrincham as City pave the way for a Hinshelwood signing later on today.
