ADAM Hinshelwood reflected on Tuesday night’s 6-1 hammering at Altrincham and admitted that York City’s performance was ‘nowhere near acceptable’.

The defeat at Altrincham meant that Hinshelwood’s wait for a first win as York manager stretches on, with City now sitting second from bottom of the Vanarama National League table with seven matches remaining.

Hinshelwood admitted that he had a ‘sleepless night’ after the match, with the Minstermen manager having a tough start to life in North Yorkshire.

“It was a sleepless night on Tuesday night. I got home and reflected, watched it back,” Hinshelwood admitted.

“There’s a really tough few games coming up now but I think that they all are in this league. All we can do is work even harder and keep showing the players what we want.

“There were lots of areas we have got to tighten up defensively and when players do make mistakes it’s how you respond.

“We’ve got to respond to them better than we did. Conceding so early was a big catalyst in terms of how the performance went.

“It’s not all going to be rosy. We’re up against some proper adversity and in these games we need to not give up on anything. We can’t give up in any minute of any game.

“On Wednesday we showed them lots of areas that we could improve on, and got back to business, back to work today.

“We’ve got to look at it the other way where it can really sort of galvanise us. That feeling we all had after that game, we can’t let that enter the dressing room again.

“That’s got to be our motivation. It has to be our motivation to work as tirelessly as we can so that we don’t feel that again.

“It’s been a tough start in these two weeks, but we’ve got to be honest with each other as there were things in the game that happened and weren’t acceptable.

“Obviously there were some mistakes as well at really bad times, and there were mistakes on my behalf as well.”

Hinshelwood also confirmed that he had talks with co-chairs Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla after the Altrincham defeat, and praised the decision to reimburse supporters for making the journey across the Pennines.

Hinshelwood commented: “I’ve spoke to them a couple of times since then. Obviously no one was more disappointed than myself, and the travelling supporters that have come have given up their hard-earned money and time to come and support the team.

“It was nowhere near acceptable in terms of the level of performance. I think the owners have done the right thing.”
