YORK City winger Finlay Barnes has joined Darlington on a one-month loan deal.

Barnes joined York from Leiston in the Summer for an undisclosed fee, and impressed in pre-season with consistent good performances, as well as scoring on his non-competitive debut against Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite his form in pre-season, Barnes is yet to appear in a matchday squad for City, struggling to get into the side ahead of Maziar Kouhyar, Zanda Siziba and Callum Harriott.

Manager Michael Morton has made the decision to loan Barnes out on a short-term loan deal to Vanarama National League North outfit Darlington.

Morton also added another winger to his squad yesterday night with the addition of former Rangers youngster Kai Kennedy, seeing Barnes' minutes in a City shirt potentially more limited.

Barnes joins a Darlington side in a precarious position after a squad rebuild in the Summer, beginning their National League North campaign with three straight defeats, before earing a 1-1 draw with Brackley Town on Saturday to see the Quakers rise to 23rd in the table.

The 22-year-old will be available to make his debut for Darlington in their clash with Alfreton Town on Saturday.

Speaking to the club media team, Barnes said:"I want to play wherever I am, I want to play football as that's what I love doing.

"I want to score as many goals as I can, create chances for the team and do what I can."
