FORMER York City youth-team winger Jamie Hopcutt has tonight scored a Europa League stunner.

The 25-year-old netted a cracker in the second minute of injury time to give unfancied Swedish side Ostersund a 2-0 win over Galatasaray in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie.

Saman Ghoddos had earlier shocked the Turkish giants by giving the Swedes the lead on 68 minutes at their 8,500-capacity stadium.

As reported by The Press, Hopcutt's team - who are also managed by ex-Minstermen left-back Graham Potter - qualified for the Europa competition in April when causing one of the biggest shocks in Scandinavian football, becoming the first team from the Norrland region to win the Swedish Cup final.

Hopcutt - the son of former York Rugby League star Chris Hopcutt, who travelled to Sweden to watch the game - was released from his first professional contract at Bootham Crescent six years ago during current City chief Gary Mills' first spell in charge.

He turned out for Ossett Town and Tadcaster Albion in the Northern Counties East League before joining Ostersund in 2012, initially on a three-month deal after a successful trial. His team have since risen from the third to the top tier in Sweden before this year lifting the domestic cup for the first time. He has scored 39 goals in 109 appearances.
