YORK City will come up against a familiar foe when September's Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month Michael Gash lines up for Barnet tomorrow.

Gash, 29, won the monthly prize for netting four times in five matches, coming out on top in a shortlist that included Accrington midfielder Matt Crooks, Wycombe utility man Michael Harriman and Mansfield defender Krystian Pearce.

He also grabbed his fifth goal of the season during Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Accrington and is acclimatising well to his first campaign in the Football League.

Gash was a £55,000 flop at Bootham Crescent, scoring just two goals in his last 44 outings before being farmed out to Rushden by ex-City boss Gary Mills amid allegations that the ex-Cambridge and Ebbsfleet forward was overweight.

But he is currently outshining last season's 32-goal, top marksman John Akinde, who has failed to hit the target in 11 matches and has only struck three times this term.

Former Ipswich and Birmingham striker Aaron McLean has also had to play second fiddle to Gash and was only introduced from the bench against Accrington.

Despite Gash's potency, though, Barnet are currently on League Two's joint-longest losing streak, along with Hartlepool, having been defeated in their last three outings against Accrington and during trips to AFc Wimbledon (2-0) and Plymouth (2-1).

Martin Allen's men have also gone eight games without a clean sheet and only managed two shut-outs during the whole campaign.

That statistic has not been helped by instability in the team's goalkeeping position with four different net-minders donning the gloves during the club's opening dozen league games.

Experienced ex-Leeds and Millwall shot-stopper Graham Stack started the season in between the sticks but injury then gave 22-year-old Jamie Stephens his chance.

A red card for Stephens saw 17-year-old Leon McKenzie handed a daunting debut as a substitute during a 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth with the subsequent suspension forcing Allen into the loan market and third-choice Oxford keeper Max Crocombe has started the last five games.

Barnet's defensive efforts will not be helped either tomorrow by a one-match suspension for former France under-21 international Bira Dembele.

He was shown his fifth yellow card of the season against Accrington and either Michael Nelson or Sam Muggleton will deputise.

The North London outfit currently lie fourth-bottom in the table two points above the relegation zone but their form at The Hive has, so far, kept them out of more serious trouble as they are the only team in English football's top five tiers not to have picked up a single point on their travels this season.

Barnet (probable): Crocombe, Yiadom, Nelson, N'Gala, Johnson, Vilhete, Weston, Togwell, Gambin, Gash, Akinde.
