YORK City's youth team picked up their first point of the new season during a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City.

Striker Nick Kennedy's header had given the Minstermites the lead but an 80th-minute penalty earned the home side a share of the spoils.

Kennedy scored after bravely heading over the Imps' advancing keeper following Rob Cooney's through ball but keeper Kieren Price was given no chance when this hosts levelled from the spot late on.

Second-year Liverpool scholar Josh Dobie, who is on work experience with City's under 18s, shone at the back, meanwhile, with academy manager Andy McMillan adding: "Josh is a right-sided, centre-half and is very comfortable on the ball.

"We have had problems with injuries in defence and it's unfair to keep relying on under-16 players. Josh is also happy to help the team and it's very good for our young players to see what it takes to be on the books of a big club.

"It was also a good performance at Lincoln. We have been trying to get the team playing the right way on the last two or three games, while still meeting the club's expectations to get results from games.

Alex McMillan - the manager's son and a U16 player - was man of the match in his dad's old position at right back, Kennedy also worked hard for the cause and Sam Fielding did very well.

City's U18s now visit unbeaten Mansfield today.
