THE first of five away Yorkshire Two games in a row sees Selby RUFC travel to second-placed Bradford Salem tomorrow.

Three consecutive wins mean spirits are high in the Selby camp and victory in West Yorkshire could lift the Swans to fifth.

Coach Richard Nicholson believes momentum and consistency is key in the build up to some difficult away fixtures.

On the prospect of being on the road for the next five league games, Nicholson said: “It’s a bit of a cliché, but we are just taking each game as it comes.

“We have had our home games and won them so there’s no reason we can’t go away and do it.

“We’re happy how we have done lately. We’re not quite in the title mix but a lot of teams have to play each other. It’s good the young lads are being tested.”

The difficult trip to Bradford begins an important period of the season for the Sandhill Laners, which also sees the club in the quarter-final of the Yorkshire Shield.

Nicholson is forced into two changes tomorrow as Jason Hirst is unavailable so Brendan Lanaghan will come back in and a shoulder injury to Sam Weller will allow Alex Arthur to take his place at centre.

Meanwhile, a resurgent Malton & Norton head into tomorrow’s North One East fixture at Old Brodleians confident they can continue their recent positive form.

With only one loss in their previous five league games, the table reads well for sixth-placed Malton.

Club spokesman Bill Laidler said: “We have a number of players returning from injury to strengthen the squad.

“With safety almost achieved we can now relax and play some of the rugby we are known for.

“We’re fairly safe in the league now so we will be able to bring one or two lads in and give them a first-team run out.”

Andy Mitchell is out with a broken arm, while Duncan Foster will also be absent.

Nick Salisbury looks set to come in for hooker Alex Whittaker, who is also unavailable.

Laidler added: “The players are feeling okay and confident, but we do need to sort out the away form as it’s not been great.”

York RI this weekend aim to overturn recent poor form as they host seventh-placed Bramley Pheonix in Yorkshire Three, while Yorkshire Five strugglers Nestlé Rowntree host mid-table side Rotherham Clifton.
